Submission Categories

A selection of feature length, Narrative and Documentary films, directed by a group of new and emerging filmmakers you’ve never heard of. Wes Anderson, Sophia Coppola, Richard Linklater and many other iconic, indie filmmakers have never submitted films to this category— but you could! Gen-Next films must be between 20 mins. – 150 mins in length.

Music Docs
Documentary + rockers that rock(ed) = some of the most interesting filmmaking we have ever seen. If you made such a film, about a musician or musicians, or the musicians industry – feel free to submit it. Music Docs must be between 20 mins. – 150 mins. in length.

Short Films
They prefer to be called “Little Films”, but these tiny opuses often have more to say than their feature-length counterparts.  Quick, brief, and to the point. These films are less that 20 minutes in length. Shorter films=More stories.

This category features films by filmmakers that understand the arts of innovation, technology and cinema. We expect these films to get weird. Keep them short, Experimental films must be 20 mins or less.

Horror Shorts
These films pack all the bone chilling, toe curling horror into 20 minutes or less.

Sound Bites: Music Video
In 1981 video killed the radio star, yet, in a surprise twist, was acquitted of all charges when it was realized that nobody cared. Decades later KahBang offers a category devoted solely to honor the brilliance that is Music Videos. Filmmakers are encouraged to submit their work and have the rights to the music – or else the filmmaker may be labeled and “infringer”, and punished for infringing. If MTV won’t play ‘em, we will.

All Official Selection Films are eligible for the KahBang Audience Choice Award. All films, except “Sound Bites”, are eligible for the Special Jury Prize in their own category.
